For Location scouting, we took a trip to our local moor that being Ilkley moor. On the moor we found the perfect place for where we plan to film ( Pictured Below). We decided that this place was ideal as it was secluded in the woods thus meaning it was an ideal spot for a tent as well as it being a realistic option if people wanted to camp on the moor. Finally the surrounding woods provided a great backdrop as well as it making a perfect place for a foot chase scene.

P3: Risk Assesment and Location Scouting
Location Scouting
For Location scouting, we took a trip to our local moor that being Ilkley moor. On the moor we found the perfect place for where we plan to film ( Pictured Below). We decided that this place was ideal as it was secluded in the woods thus meaning it was an ideal spot for a tent as well as it being a realistic option if people wanted to camp on the moor. Finally the surrounding woods provided a great backdrop as well as it making a perfect place for a foot chase scene.

P4 - Logging Rushes
The second shot we chose was a long shot of the three boys setting up the tent on the moor. We felt that this shot would be ideal as it allows the audience to grasp a feel of the setting that the short movie will be set in. For this shot we realised due to the cameras distance from the action we would struggle to record audio through the camera so used a wireless portable microphone , and synced the audio through a clap that can be clearly heard in the audio and seen visually on the camera, allowing it to be easily synced in post production.
The third shot we chose was of a shot inside the tent, this shot allow the audience to visualise the surroundings the boys will be in but from an interior perspective. We chose this shot as it has all three boys in their prime positions as well as having a good shot of the inside of the tent, we once again used a wireless portable microphone in this scene for ease of use.
For the final shot in which one of the protagonist dies we chose a medium range shot as it allows us to get a mixture of the scenery, which creates a final dramatic affect for the death of a character as well as allowing us to be close enough to the character to capture all his emotions just before his death to the masked man who appears from behind him.
Unit 20 - M3: Explain how the Adverts Comply with the Codes and Conventions of the Media Sector
Billboards

In order to meet these typical conventions i used a program called Adobe Illustrator to make my design the correct dimensions to be used at the road side and on public transport.

A conventional billboard design will tend to feature a logo of the media network that is broadcasting the show alongside with ether the main protagonist of the show and a the shows slugline. for example the billboard displayed above shows us the programs slug line 'He'll get you off' with the protagonist in the centre, the shows title is in the corner in large bold lettering and the shows distributor and date of release is in the bottom right corner. On my billboard I have featured the tunnel that the characters travel through on their way to the game and often have fights in. As this is a campaign all the ads should be linked together and i have achieved this through the use of the shows slugline "what else you gonna do on the weekend". I also featured the BBC3 logo in the bottom corner of all my ads to advertise the distributor of my series.
Social Media
The inspiration for my social media add came from images found on my mood board and also from the instagram page '@lufcfanzone' which features cartoon like illustrations of players and managers.
This image is used as a teaser, I think the simplicity of the design and the bright colour way makes it look very original as an advert and will attract the audience. much like the billboard design the campaigns slug line is featured along with the title, it also displays the BBC 3 logo in the bottom of the design to show the distributor of the show.
TV Advert
My advert shares the typical codes and conventions of a BBC film trailer; title screen, snappy editing, voiceovers, short snippets from the show and a backing track. i think that the trailer has been executed in a way that makes it look professional and so it is easily identifiable as the trailer for a TV drama series.
I researched some radio adverts created and published by the BBC and I followed a similar structure in order to construct my advert in the correct manner.
The adverts tend to start and/or end with a voiceover detailing what the programme subject is or the title of the program. It also includes audio clips taken directly from the tv advert in key plot moments to help the view experience the trailer without visual aid. Finally there is usually backing music playing to set the mood/style of what the program will be like for example a slow paced tune with more bass for a more dramatic and dark drama and a fast paced upbeat backing track for a drama with more action and excitement. All BBC radio adverts usually have a runtime between 30 seconds to a 90 seconds.
I followed these codes and conventions to make my advert to the same level of the BBC published ads ignorer to remain professional and correct. The advert will have a run time of 72 seconds, this complies with the conventions of adverts that tend to be played on the BBC network and is the perfect length to get across the right ad.
I believe that my advert is a good example of a conventional tv advert as the advert ends with a narration stating when the programme will be published to the public and the name of the series. The advert is made up of audio clips from the TV advert and also some audio not featured in the visual trailer. I also included the same backing song as in the tv advert, this is done to give listeners a better feel of how the programme will run and also so that the viewer links the 2 as part of the campaign which is also achieved through my protagonist saying the slug line "what else you gonna do at the weekend".

Unit 21 - M3/D1: Responding to Client Feedback
Questions I was asked by the client:
Could you explain the title please?
A casual state of mind - comes from the alternative name for a football hooligan which is a 'football casual'
What is the message of the overall theme?
The overall message for my media production is to show how people can be influenced into self destructive behaviour to gain a sense of belonging and security. When Joe dies at the end of the first season it goes onto season 2 and shows the redemption of the other 3 characters and how they realise the death of joe was caused by them and shows how they move out of the life of crime.
What is it that motivates the characters (hooligans)?
After research into the culture of football violence and hooligan firms i believe that the thing that drives them into the firms and what makes them stay is due to many reasons; the first one being to gain a sense of belonging this could be due to rejection at school or home or based on issues with there biological family, another reason is to escape from the normal lives they lead and do something that is completely separate from there working lifestyle and finally alot of the motivation comes from the rush and adrenaline factor of fighting itself and people enjoy the action and danger they put themselves in.
What about representation of females or other groups (not just white males)?
The target audience for my film is primarily male that is who i am trying to represent. If I was to create a media piece to accommodate to every person within the media audience and represent everyone then the story would suffer and the plot would become complicated at many would loose interest. The culture surrounding football hooliganism is a male dominated world and there is rarely any females in the firms however, a strong female character is Joe's mum who works hard to pull Joe away from the firm but due to the arguing just pushes him further away and into his new 'family' the firm.
Do your primary audience relate to the characters (gain personal identity)?
I think that although the audience will not be able to relate to the characters involvement in football violence and crime they will however be of the same age and likely be the same gender so the will experience some of the same issues that the characters will face in there lives. This can be from issues at home and school to felling as if they don't belong to anything. This TV series could also help teenagers in the life of crime relate to the character and see how it negatively effects not just their life but the lives of there loved ones and people around them.
Do you think there is a risk that the topic is remote from the lives of the audience?
Partially yes because the audience will not have experienced this for themselves first hand but that is where the audience pleasure of surveillance comes into the picture and also partially no because although it will be remote people watch action and crime dramas about many topics that are no longer relevant in this day and age and yet they still bring in a large audience.
What attracts people to this type of show?
i think what attracts people to this show is the genre, people will be attracted to the action packed and violent scenes and also the drama side of the show rather than the culture of football hooligans, a large percentage of the audience will be people interested in the culture itself but also a lot f the audience will just be people who enjoy action and don't know a lot about football violence.
To feel relevant do you think it could be used as a metaphor for extremism?
Yes, i think it could be used as a metaphor for extremism as it shows how easily a person can have there view changed and they can take on extreme views and actions in order to gain a sense of belonging. A lot of people who become involved with gangs or extremist groups do so because they want to be apart of something bigger than themselves.
How I will use this to develop my idea:
The client feedback i received when pitching my idea to the BBC 3 representative has been very helpful in the further development of my idea.
The first point i would like to develop is that the show would not be suitable for BBC 1 or 2 because of its variable lengths, this is because i pitched my idea to have 30 - 40 min episodes. the reason this makes it suitable for streaming services like BBC 3 or Netflix is because they are not based on specific times but TV channels like BBC 1 and 2 run on set timings so the show must last a specific length to fit it into a schedule. After some thought i think that the ideal running time for my episode would be between 30 and 32 mins, this allows the pilot episode to establish the theme and introduce characters and also allows the episodes to be long enough to have an in depth plot and character profile to comply with the need of diversion.
The second point i would like to address is the lack of female and minority group representation, to combat this weakness i have had the idea to include Joe's mother as a much larger part, she will feature in more episodes and the relationship between Joe and his Mother will be further developed, she will play a large roll in the show trying to pull Joe away from his current lifestyle choice. Secondly in the next season when the boys are looking to remove themselves from the situation due to prison threats, criminal records and the death of their close friend the social worker attached to the boys will be a strong woman lead and she will almost be like a mother to the lads as they have been rejected at home.
The show could be related more to current times by being used as a metaphor for extremism because its about finding an alternative family and belonging to something and this is just like when people are brought into extremist groups and develop extremist views because they are looking for a group of people they can call there own and the fact that a vulnerable person is looking for something to be apart of and this allows them to be manipulated and convinced of things by people they believe are there friends or people they can trust.
Another point for development brought to light by the client is what is the characters motivation to join the firm because if he is 17/18 then he will be in collage so he must have some motivation to stay on the straight and narrow. Because there must be something quite extreme to drive someone to become part of a firm and go out fighting every weekend. I think to improve and address this the best option for my character is to develop a deeper back story of his home life; Joe's dad could have died in the army and as a young lad he doesn't quite know how to express his anger and pain because he doesn't want to look weak so he keeps it all bottled in, this leads to him having a terrible relationship with his mother and he rejects his step farther and is angry at his mum for meeting someone new. all this anger and pain and also the difficulty at home would then give Joe the motivation to join the firm: it gives him a new family, the fighting allows him to get rid of his anger he has had kept in for so long and it also allows him to get away from the house and away from his parents.

Unit 21 - M1: Discuss Strengths and Weaknesses of my Ideas
Idea 1:
Strengths - I believe this idea is strong as it will not have to be made on a high budget, the show uses younger actors and the settings will mainly be in the streets, therefore the cost of the episodes will be lower than that of a show that uses a lot of adult actors. A second strength of this idea is that young audiences generally enjoy a more transgressive subject, the audience will also be able to gain the audience pleasure of personal identity as they will be able to relate to the teenage characters as they will share some of the same problems with them.
Weaknesses - One of the main weaknesses of this idea is the use of football stadiums effecting the budget, because this idea involves football the use of stadiums, fields, kits and equipment will have a large impact on the budget making this idea slightly unlikely to be taken on by a company such as the BBC. Another weakness is that because the topic of the show revolves around drugs the target audience is limited and the show may have to be played after the 9pm watershed, the topic may also not appeal to people as much as a tamer topic would.
Idea 2:
Strengths - This idea has very similar strengths and weaknesses to the previous idea, the use of young actors will bring down the budget of this show because they will not need to be payed as much as adult actors. The theme of this show is also transgressive so will be targeted more at the younger audience who are the most likely audience for BBC 3, an online streaming service.
Weaknesses - Much like the previous idea this program has the weakness of being focused on football so if the use of official team names and brands are to be used then this may dig into the budget of the show and also if the football games are to be recorded then permission will have to be obtained from the club.
Idea 3:
Strengths - This idea is strong because the plot of the idea itself is very original and interesting, i think this plot will attract people to it due to its unique nature. The BBC offers no other show like this and also features very little sci-fi programs. The use of CGI means that the cost of casting can be cut down because CGI characters/extras can be used.
Weaknesses - Although the use of CGI can be a strength its also a weakness because the use of extensive CGI and green screening is very expensive due to the cost of all the equipment and also in post production due to the cost to employ editors and buy software. Another weakness is that the sci-fi genre is a niche market and may not appeal to a large target audience which cuts down BBC 3's profits and the shows opportunities.
